- 1 box chocolate cake mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup salted caramel sauce
- 1 cup whipped topping
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup chocolate pudding (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to the temperature recommended on the cake mix box.
- Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan.
- Combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs in a large mixing bowl until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake according to the cake mix instructions, usually 25-30 minutes.
- Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean.
- Let the cake cool for 10 minutes in the pan.
- Poke holes all over the top of the cake using a fork.
- Drizzle half of the salted caramel sauce over the cake.
- Cool completely to allow caramel to set.
- Spread whipped topping over the cooled cake and drizzle with remaining caramel sauce.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped pecans on top.

You can make the cake ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. For different flavors, try walnuts instead of pecans or add cream cheese frosting.
