- 1 pack of thick-cut bacon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tablespoon water
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 baguette
- Olive oil, salt, and pepper for seasoning
- 4 or 8-ounce log of goat cheese
- Maple syrup (or honey, or hot honey)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Coat each slice of bacon in this mixture.
- Lay the coated bacon strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes until crispy.
- Once cooked, let the bacon cool while preparing the cheese log.
- Slice the baguette into ½-inch pieces, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Toast the baguette slices in the oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden.
- Place the log of goat cheese onto plastic wrap and shape it into a log.
- Wrap the cooled bacon strips around the cheese log, overlapping slightly.
- Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Drizzle with maple syrup before serving with crostini.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: You can prepare the bacon and cheese log a day in advance; keep them separate until serving for maximum crispiness.
