Description

A mouthwatering appetizer featuring creamy goat cheese wrapped in sweet, caramelized bacon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack of thick-cut bacon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 baguette
  • Olive oil, salt, and pepper for seasoning
  • 4 or 8-ounce log of goat cheese
  • Maple syrup (or honey, or hot honey)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and red pepper flakes. Coat each slice of bacon in this mixture.
  3. Lay the coated bacon strips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes until crispy.
  4. Once cooked, let the bacon cool while preparing the cheese log.
  5. Slice the baguette into ½-inch pieces, drizzle with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  6. Toast the baguette slices in the oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden.
  7. Place the log of goat cheese onto plastic wrap and shape it into a log.
  8. Wrap the cooled bacon strips around the cheese log, overlapping slightly.
  9. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  10. Drizzle with maple syrup before serving with crostini.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: You can prepare the bacon and cheese log a day in advance; keep them separate until serving for maximum crispiness.
