Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1/4 cup sugar (for strawberries)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- Whipped cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking pan for easy release.
- Mix the crust ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Whisk until creamy. Gradually add the flour and mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan, pressing down evenly to form a base.
- Prepare the strawberries: In another bowl, toss the sliced strawberries with sugar and cornstarch. Allow them to sit for about 10 minutes.
- Spread the syrupy strawberries over the crust, spreading them evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the edges become golden brown and the filling bubbles slightly.
- Cool completely in the pan before slicing into squares.
- Serve with a generous dollop of whipped cream on top.
Notes
For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend. To enhance flavors, add lemon zest or drizzle chocolate over whipped cream.
