- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups sliced apples
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
- 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy and fluffy.
- Gradually mix in the flour and salt until just combined.
- Press half of this mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
- In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice and cinnamon, then spread evenly over the crust.
- In a small bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and cold butter until crumbly, then sprinkle on top of the apples.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
For best results, use a mix of apple varieties for balanced sweetness and tartness.
