Description

  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Heat the milk and butter until warm and mix with the dry ingredients. Add the egg and mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour.
  3. Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the dough, roll it into a rectangle, and spread the apple butter evenly.
  4. Add Sweetness: Sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar.
  5. Shape the Rolls: Roll tightly into a log, cut into 12 sections, and place in a greased baking dish.
  6. Second Rise: Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake to Perfection: Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Glaze and Serve: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze and drizzle over warm rolls.

Notes

Make the dough a day in advance and refrigerate it after the first rise for convenience. Can be customized with nuts or dried fruits.
