Description

Create a delicious loaf of Aromatic Rosemary Sourdough Bread with a crispy crust and soft, airy inside, perfect for pairing with soups, salads, or enjoyed with butter.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the sourdough starter, warm water, and sugar until well combined.
  2. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Fold in the chopped rosemary and olive oil.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  7. Punch down the dough gently to release some of the trapped gas and shape it into a round loaf.
  8. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For added flavor, try substituting dried rosemary or adding garlic. Allow dough to rise overnight for better flavor development.
