A comforting casserole combining ground meat, cabbage, and rice simmered in a rich tomato sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners.

- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup rice, uncooked
- 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
- 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 cup beef broth or water
Instructions
- Brown the meat: In your skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey with the chopped onion and minced garlic over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Create layers in the crockpot: Begin by layering half of the chopped cabbage in the bottom.
- Add the meat: Spoon half of the cooked meat mixture on top of the cabbage.
- Add rice and tomatoes: Spread half of the uncooked rice over the meat, followed by half of the diced tomatoes and half of the tomato sauce.
- Season: Sprinkle salt, pepper, and paprika over the top.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- Add liquid: Pour the beef broth (or water) over the entire mixture.
- Cook: Cover and set your crockpot to low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- Serve warm: Dish out generous portions and enjoy.
Notes
Prep the night before for convenience. Can also be baked in the oven at 350°F for about an hour.
