Description
A nostalgic recipe for crispy, tender fried chicken that brings family and friends together.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken pieces (legs, thighs, or breasts)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: Begin by placing your chicken pieces in a large bowl. Pour the buttermilk over them, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Seasoned Flour: In another bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Whisk until blended.
- Heat the Oil: Fill a deep skillet or Dutch oven with about 2 inches of oil and heat it over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Coat the Chicken: Take each piece of chicken from the buttermilk and dredge it in the seasoned flour, pressing gently for an even coating.
- Fry the Chicken: Carefully place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, fry for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and cooked to 165°F internally.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the chicken from the oil and let it drain on paper towels or a cooling rack. Serve hot.
Notes
For richer flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. Ensure oil is hot enough to avoid greasy chicken.
