Description

Delightful soft and chewy cookies adorned with festive colors and royal icing, perfect for celebrating the Fourth of July.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Royal icing or flood icing for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream together softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Blend in the dry mixture until combined.
  6. Divide the dough into three parts, tinting one red and another blue.
  7. Roll the dough into balls and flatten on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack before decorating with royal icing.

Notes

Dough can be made a day ahead and stored in the fridge. Customize with chocolate chips or flavored extracts.
