- 1/4 cup apricot jam (for glaze)
- 1 tablespoon water (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine the flour, sugar, yeast, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl.
- Whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, and eggs in another bowl.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes until smooth.
- Fold in diced apples, raisins, and cherries.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide it into portions, and shape into buns.
- Arrange the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Mix flour with enough water to create a thick paste for the crosses.
- Pipe crosses onto the buns.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Heat the apricot jam with water until smooth, then brush over warm buns.
Notes
Customize by swapping apples with pears or cranberries. Try using different dried fruits for a unique flavor.
