Description

A delightful homemade pie featuring a flaky crust filled with rich cheese, savory ham, and fresh herbs, ideal for family dinners or cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb sliced ham (quality, dry-cured preferred)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll one sheet of puff pastry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use a fork to prickle the surface gently; this prevents the pastry from puffing up too much. Bake for about 10 minutes, until lightly golden and slightly puffy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the Gruyère, Parmesan, breadcrumbs, and melted butter. Use your hands or a fork to blend the ingredients until crumbly and well-mixed.
  3. In another bowl, stir together the sour cream, minced garlic, and Dijon mustard. Add salt and pepper to taste; this creamy base enhances and binds all your ingredients harmoniously.
  4. Once your pastry base has cooled slightly, spread the cream mixture evenly over it. Layer the ham slices generously, covering the pie while leaving gaps for the cheese mixture. Sprinkle the cheese breadcrumb mixture and fresh herbs on top.
  5. Gently place the second sheet of puff pastry over the filling, sealing the edges with a fork. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  6. Slide your pie into the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the top is a glorious golden brown and the filling bubbles.
  7. Allow the pie to rest for 10 minutes after removing it from the oven. Serve warm, ideally with your favorite dips or a vibrant salad.

Notes

Feel free to substitute ingredients based on your preferences—use turkey or chicken instead of ham, and different cheeses if desired.
