- 1 cup White vinegar
- 1 cup Water
- 1–2 tsp Red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Whole black peppercorns
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the garlic: Peel the garlic cloves and set them aside, enjoying the aroma.
- Make the brine: In a saucepan, combine equal parts white vinegar and water, adding salt and sugar to taste.
- Add spices: Stir in red pepper flakes, mustard seeds, and whole black peppercorns.
- Heat the brine: Bring the mixture to a boil, then let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Pack the jars: Place garlic cloves into sterilized jars and pour the hot brine over them.
- Seal and cool: Seal the jars and let them cool to room temperature.
- Refrigerate: Allow the pickled garlic to sit in the refrigerator for at least a week before enjoying.
Notes
These pickled garlic cloves can be made several weeks in advance and their flavors deepen with time. Experiment with different spices for customization.
