- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/4 cup iced water
- 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 cup flour (for crumb topping)
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Cut in the cold butter until coarse crumbs form.
- Gradually add iced water, mixing until the dough comes together. Roll out and place in the pie dish.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples.
- Heat 1 cup of sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it turns golden caramel. Whisk in the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and sea salt.
- Pour the caramel over the apples and toss to coat. Transfer into the pie crust.
- Mix together the crumb topping ingredients and crumble over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow to cool completely before serving.
