Description

A delicious and easy recipe for homemade slow cooker apple butter, combining sweet, caramelized apples with warm spices, perfect for spreading on toast or adding to oatmeal.


Ingredients

  • 6 pounds of apples, peeled and cored
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon of allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prep the apples by peeling, coring, and slicing them into small pieces.
  2. Combine the chopped apples with sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and lemon juice in the slow cooker.
  3. Slow cook on low for 8–10 hours until apples are soft and fragrant.
  4. Blend the mixture using an immersion blender until smooth.
  5. Thicken the apple butter uncovered on low for an additional 1–2 hours.
  6. Jar the apple butter and store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Feel free to mix different apple varieties for a unique flavor. This apple butter can also be canned for longer storage.
