Description

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) instant yeast

Instructions

  1. Combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 1 packet of instant yeast in a large mixing bowl. Stir until evenly mixed.
  2. Add 1 cup of bubbly sourdough starter and 1 cup of warm water to the dry ingredients. Mix until the dough starts to form and no dry flour remains.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Grease a large bowl lightly and place your kneaded dough inside. Cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm, draft-free spot for 1 to 2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Punch down the dough gently to release air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased bread pan, seam side down.
  6. Cover the loaf with a kitchen towel again and let it rise until it’s doubled in size, about 30-60 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the last 15 minutes of the second rise.
  8. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown on top and hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  9. Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Make-ahead options are available; let the dough rise in the fridge overnight for better flavor.
