- 1 whole turkey (12–15 pounds)
- 1/4 cup olive oil or melted butter
- 2 tablespoons salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
- 2 oranges, cut into wedges
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cups low-sodium chicken broth
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
- Remove the turkey giblets from the cavity, and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.
- Rub the entire turkey with olive oil or melted butter, ensuring all surfaces shine.
- Generously season with salt and black pepper.
- Stuff the turkey cavity with chopped herbs, orange, lemon, and onion.
- Place the turkey breast-side up on a roasting rack in a sturdy roasting pan.
- Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.
- Roast the turkey, calculated at 13-15 minutes per pound, basting it every 30-45 minutes.
- Use a meat thermometer to check the thickest part of the thigh, ensuring it reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Once done, let the turkey rest for at least 30 minutes before carving.
Notes
For added flavor, prepare the herb mixture and season your turkey the day before. Also, consider using an air fryer for a quicker cooking time.
